Love Notes
Recently, while out to eat with a friend, I saw a little boy walk up to the door of the restaurant. As he attempted to open the door, it seemed to be too much for him, so he stopped, rolled his sleeves up and tried again with what seemed to be with all his might. When it seemed as if this was not going to work in his favor, the little boy turned around and asked his father, "Can you help me please, dad?" The dad replied, "Only if you help me." The son smiled and said, "Daddy, it can't take both of us!" So, there he went pushing again, and the father joined in and pushed the door open with one hand.
Once the little boy was able to get into the restaurant, he asked to go to the restroom. As he approached the door, he soon found that the same problem seemed to have followed him. The restroom door didn't want to open for him. Fed up and discouraged, the little boy began to cry. The father just stood by and acted as if he didn't see or hear the groans of his son.
Me, being curious, got up and asked the father why he didn't help his son and why did he act as if he didn't hear him crying. The father began to explain to me that he is teaching him to ask for help when he needs it and not just give up. He stated, "I like it when he tries to do things on his own, but we all need help at times. All he had to do was ask and I would have helped him open the second door as well.
I stopped and thought about it. That's exactly how we do God. We keep trying to get in the room, then stop, pray He opens the door. But then, we get to the next door and don't even ask for help. We try to do it on our own, and when we can't do it,we forget to call our help. We begin to feel as if God just didn't want us to have it.
My question for you today is, what have you not gotten because it has proven to be too much for you, but you have not asked your FATHER to help you get it?
Push the door, but ask for help.
